What Giuliani said
The New York Times reported today that on Larry King Live, Rudolph Giuliani announced his candidacy for President. That was the obvious piece of news.
More interestingly, Giuliani criticized the handling of the war in Iraq, and questioned the need to invade and remove Saddam in the first place:
He said that the United States went to war with far too few forces and was wrong to dismantle Saddam Hussein’s military and government, and he conceded that if more information had been available about Iraq’s weapons, Congress never would have approved the war.
and
On the issue that looms largest over the campaign, Iraq, Mr. Giuliani used the interview to offer a harsh assessment of the Bush administration’s decision-making. His comments more closely aligned him with his chief rival in Republican primary polls, Senator John McCain of Arizona, who has supported the war, as Mr. Giuliani does, but has criticized its conduct.
Giuliani's more direct comments have set him apart from Mitt Romney, whose criticism of the Iraq war has been less blunt. But he is clearly playing both sides of the coin - stating his disapproval of the initial invasion of Iraq - but also making it clear that we cannot walk away.
